The large dried leaves of the bay tree are an important ingredient of both sweet and savory dishes. Long ago it was regarded as a potent antiseptic.
Provide well drained soil and shelter from cold and Frost. Leaves are collected in summer and dried whole. Fragrance increases upon drying.
